I finally have in my posession Victory of Eagles by [livejournal.com profile] naominovik. My wonderful wonderful sister picked it up from the bookstore and dropped it off to me at work when I called her and begged her, please, please, for my sanity's sake, bring me this booooook! As I predicted: it was dead in that office the day after The Fourth.

Okay, it still annoys me that the damn book is hardcover and therefore more expensive, but I can at least report that is a very lovely edition. Love the new cover art. And the pages are kind of uneven and rough, as if it was a handcrafted manuscript. Pretty. Although given the choice I'd still rather pay eight bucks for a paperback.

I saw it in Chapters yesterday. I almost walked right past it because the cover is so different from the others. Next I guess they'll rerelease the previous books with new covers to match? Maybe not. They would back home, they play around with them a lot like that.

I'd be surprised if they did, actually. You can't get any of the Valdemar books in hardcover pre-Winds of Fate/Change/Fury (books 11-13). I've seen hardcover three-in-one omnibuses of the Arrows of The Queen trilogy (books 1-3) and The Last Herald Mage trilogy (books 7-9) through SFBC but nowhere else. And those all have different cover art. I actually like their's better.
