I just want to say I am loving this new theme! It reminds me of my great grandmother.
Anyway, it's always a nerve wracking experience babysitting for a couple you've never met, especially when their kids are four year old twins. Yikes. But oh my god, those kids were so sweeeet! Awe! I really hope they rely on my for all the rest of their babysitting needs! The little boy ran right up to me and hugged me as soon as I walked in. There was none of that crying, snivelling crap, "but why can't we go with you mommy?" Apparently being left with a sitter was a huge novelty.
The dad's a doctor, and they're moving down here from up North somewhere. And, well, they're nice people, they really are, but...they srike me as...as people who don't really realize that they aren't exactly...average. For example, around here, if your kids wanted an apple, you'd take an apple out of the fruit basket, wash it, and if you were so inclined, cut it into wedges. These people? They buy presliced apples. I didn't even know you could buy them already sliced. I kept wondering, well how do they keep them from turning brown? (Answer, ascorbic acid. I had to read the label, come one, wouldn't you?). I find that sad. One of the coolest things when I was a kid was to slice into an apple and see the "star" made from the seeds. Of course I always forgot which way to cut it to see it. :)
And they buy Crustables. Do you know what those are? Neither did I, until now. A Crustable is a premade peanut butter and jelly sandwich. They're round for some reason, and have crimped edges like a pie. They come frozen. Now here I'm scratching my head and wondering, who the hell would fork out cash for these things? (Doctor's wives, apparently.) Wouldn't it be more...economical to, you know, buy a jar of jelly or jam and peanut butter, and make one yourself? As many as you wanted, instead of buying four in a box? They're nice people, don't get me wrong, but come on. Slice your own damn apples, people. If you're so rushed you can't make your kids a PB&J, then you need to stop for a minute and reasses your priorities. Tommorow I'm taking some bread and peanut butter and my homemade strawberry fig jam (if the kids are eating premade sandwiches what are the odds they've ever had homemade jam, poor things? When I was their age I was helping Nana make it myself. Well, okay, I wasn't actually making jam when I was four, but I picked the berries!) and they're going to have real food for lunch.

Exactly.
I'm speaking generalities, obviously I've never met these particular people :) Never heard of crustables but my lip is curling in contempt already... Oh, you cut the apple through the middle, as opposed to top-to-bottom.
