rant
It's time for another rant, this time brought to you by the fashion industry:
It's more or less an accepted fact that fashion designers are prejudiced against fat chicks. Are we agreed? BUT, you may not know that they are also prejudiced against people (like me) with big feet. In sneakers, I wear a size 10, most brands. In dress shoes, I wear an 11, and if they have a 12 I'll get that instead. But it's impossible to find nice shoes that fit me. Impossible, I say! I've been looking for some nice, warm weather shoes to be able to wear to work, and I absolutely cannot find anything.
Now, let me pause and rewind a bit: It used to be, when you walked into a shoe store or any store, for that matter, that every size shoe had it's own aisle, starting around size 5 or 6, and going up to size 10+ (and even then sizes 10, 11, and 12--if they had it--were crammed onto one aisle instead of getting their own). But since I've been shopping, I've noticed that store owners have for some reason abolished this system, and now shoes of all sizes are mixed together. I walk up and down every aisle, and see plenty of shoes I would like to wear, but they're all 7s, 8s, 9 1/2s. All the 11s are just plain ugly; even my practically non-existent fashion sense can see that. And in one store I could only find one, one, size 11 shoe.
And flats are now one of the trends, I've noticed. At first I was thrilled. Fantastic! I thought. I hate high heels; if I had a time machine I'd go hunting for the mysogynistic bastard who invented them and beat him to death with a stiletto. But I digress. The thing is, the few flats I've been able to try on have just not looked right on me. The top part isn't long enough, and it gives me toe cleavage (well, what else can I call it?) and it just looks silly. It pisses me off, because for once this spring I could be comfortable and trendy, but it's not happening for me.
And since I started working in an office where I have to dress professionally, the two pairs of dress shoes I already own have deteriorated, so my quest has acquired an extra sense of urgency.

Ha haha hahaha hahahaha haha ha!!!!
Thank you for my first laugh of the day!
I absolutely loathe shoe shopping. I have awkward feet. Wide and high and a little big. (8 in UK sizes.) Also, because I hate shoes and because I can't afford them, I have to find ones that are versatile and will last a long time. Which is next to impossible. I need shoes I can wear to work and with jeans around the place. 's not easy, I can tell you, and just makes me hate the experience all the more.
When I lived in Japan I had to buy "men's" shoes. Their feet are tiny. But I found, with sneakers, that the men's are fashioned differently inside. I mean, the shape is all different. But it worked for simple slip-on-type shoes, which you need cause you're always having to take your shoes off. It's not long before you stop wearing anything with laces!

You know, I run around barefoot mostly, even on walks outside. I guess that's part of being a country girl, huh? And if I absolutely have to wear shoes, then I wear a pair of cheap foam flip flops, even if it's a bit chilly or damp. But this work business--the two pairs of dress shoes that I wear now I've had for about five years, if that's any indication.
