futon

This is my futon.  It was free (always awesome).  I think it's also, uh, unattractive.  Which really is fine with me.  I actually kinda like ugly stuff.  The problem is, somewhere in my mind I developed the idea that if something is ugly it is also comfortable.  I have learned this is not always true.

When I picked up all my free furniture, I had a choice of stuff for the living room: the futon, and its equally ugly coffee and end tables, or another, even uglier sofa and love seat.  Now, this sofa and love seat were truly hideous.  Old wingback style with this god-aweful electric blue polyester velvet plush upholstery--but it was quite possibly the most comfortable sofa I sat on, ever.  (The house had no A/C, it was the middle of July, and the burglar alarm was going off, but I somehow fell asleep while waiting for the truck; that's how comfy this thing was.)  But.  It had flowers all over it, and I absolutely loathe floral patterns.  So I went with the futon.  Now I am stuck with this bum number and I think that maybe the flowers would not have been so bad.  Are palm trees really any worse than huge pink roses?

I'm thinking the sofa would've been a better bet. This thing is dog ugly, but the sofa sounds atrocious - still, you can throw a blanket or something over the roses; can do that with palm trees too but it won't be any more comfortable for it! Ah but that's probably not what you wanted to hear.

Can you snuggle on this thing? Get comfy with a book and a cat? That's the most important thing. But the palm trees are making me shudder!

No, that's the problem! It's not snuggly at all. And it has those wooden arms so you can't really lean on them and relax. Normally I just read my mail and magazines on it, 'cause mags don't take long to read, at least not long enough for me to get uncomfortable. But novels are impossible.

That sucks. Reminds me of the $20 two-seater we got from the Salvation Army shop in Melbourne, which had had the webbing removed and replaced with plywood under the cushions - after ten minutes your bum hurt like crazy. Made watching movies a very uncomfortable experience! We just put it out on the street for someone to take when we left. I couldn't in good conscience take money for it! Horrible horrible thing.

Any chance you can still get the couch or is it long gone?
